Q. I forgot my password! Can I get a new one?
A. Yes. Click here and enter your email address. An email will be sent to that account with your new password.
Q. How do I change my password? A. Go to your account info and click "Edit Bio". At the end of the page, you'll see two boxes that will allow you to set a new password.
Story Uploading and Managing
Q. I'm getting an "Invalid Upload" error message when I try to upload my piece. What do I do?
A. You probably used Word and saved the file as .doc. That type isn't compatible with this site. When you save your file, save it as a plain text file. Then, it should upload without a problem.
Q. If I upload it is plain text, how do I keep my html formatting?
A. By using regular HTML formatting codes. Go here to view some samples.
Q. Why are my quotation marks missing, or replaced my question marks?
A. Another problem with Word, but easily fixed. In Word, go to "Tools" and then "Autocorrect". Click on the "AutoFormat As You Type" tab, and uncheck the "Straight quotes with smart quotes" box.
Q. How can I add another chapter to my story?
A. Go to Manage Stories on your account. Then click "Add New Chapter" next to the story you want.
Story Validation
Q. I just uploaded my story, so why can't I find it on the search engine or the recently added list?
A. All submissions are looked over by the Fic Intake Team, who review the piece to make sure it complies with our submission rules. Until they check over your story and approve it, you will not see it on the list.
If your piece is approved, you will get a message saying so, and then you'll be able to see your piece. If your piece is not approved, you will also get a message saying so.
Our goal is to get each piece looked over within at least two days. However, we have lives, and are only doing this out of our own love for the win that is Jacob and Bella. So please don't send us a rude message demanding to know what's going on with your piece. If you do, you'll immediately know what's happening with it - it will be rejected.
Q. What are the submission rules?
A. You can easily access them in three places: the navigation bar, when you begin to upload your piece, or right here.
Q. My piece was rejected. Can I resubmit it?
A. Yes, but only after the corrections have been made. If there are new mistakes or some that were missed the first time around, it can be rejected again. If you feel you are being treated unfairly, you can contact Priscilla.
Q. My story is a little different from when I submitted it. Why?
A. It can be that a member of the Fic Intake Team has made a few corrections in spelling, grammar, and/or punctuation. However, we are not beta readers, so please don't assume that if there are mistakes, we will fix them. If the piece has too many, it will be rejected.
Q. My piece was rejected, but I don't completely understand why. What can I do?
A. You can reply to the Fic Intake member that sent it. Don't be afraid to ask questions, as we are here to help you. But keep in mind that any rude behavior will result in you being ignored.
Characters, Categories, Classifications and Ratings
Q. How can I add more than one character to my story?
A. To select multiple characters for your piece, press and hold the control key, and click on the names you need. Don't select every character that's in your story- only the main ones. Otherwise, it will just make your story harder to search for.
Q. What are categories?
A. Categories are a way to organize the validated pieces. It makes it easier for someone to search for what they're looking for: fanmixes, essays, oneshots, epics, etc. The descriptions for each category are here.
Lastly, there should only be one category for each submission.
Q. What are classifications?
A. Let me start off by saying they are important and not optional. The current classifications are Time Frame (when the story takes place) and Warnings. If there's a classification you think should be on the list, contact Priscilla.
Q. What are the current ratings?
A. The ratings are your every day movie ratings.
G - Anyone can read.
PG - Contains some content unsuitable for young children.
PG13 - Contains some content unsuitable for children.
R - Mature teens and over.
NC17 - Adults only. Contains explicit content.
Q. Why can't I view fics rated NC17?
A. First, you have to be registered and logged in to view them. Once you do that, go to your account info. Click "Edit Preferences" and, under the part that says "I am of the age of consent in my locale to view materials with adult content. I realize that by agreeing, the normal warnings for stories with adult content will be by-passed," make sure you select "Yes".
Beta Reading
Q. What is a beta reader?
A. A beta is basically an editor. They check over your piece to make sure it's strong, in sense of plot and characterization, and help with grammar, spelling and punctuation. Keep in mind that betas have different strengths and styles.
Q. Where can I find one?"
A. At our forums, there is a board to both seek a beta and offer to be one.
Other Questions
Q. I've never received any emails from you guys like I'm supposed to when my piece is submitted. Why?
A. This could be for one of two reasons. Either you did not enter a valid email address, or your email client is blocking us. (You should also check your spam folder. Your email client may be putting our emails there.) Personally, I'd recommend gmail. It's a fabulous client, and has much more space than you will ever have a need for.
Q. What is a round robin?
A. It's a fic that one author begins, and then other authors add chapters to.
Q. How can I be affiliated with your site?
A. If you would like to be affiliates, contact Priscilla.
Q. I have a question/ I would like to contact the staff. Who do I contact?
A. If it's a question about fic intake, please contact a member of the Fic Intake Team, or reply to the email sent to you by them. If anything else, contact Priscilla.
